Who should take this training and what is the cost?
Brought to you by the Florida Water StarSM districts, this training is for both new and existing inspectors to pick up Florida Water StarSM continuing education. The training is free of charge and exams will be at their normal prices.
How are Florida Water StarSM inspectors different from Florida Water StarSM accredited professionals?
Inspectors must be Florida Water StarSM-accredited, which requires the completion of mandatory training, an apprenticeship and a successful score on a comprehensive exam of the Florida Water StarSM program. The inspector's primary responsibility is to verify that the project meets all relevant Florida Water StarSM criteria, through review of project documentation submitted by the applicant and an on-site inspection of the project. The inspector only submits projects that meet minimum criteria for certification.
Accredited professionals (APs) are landscape or irrigation professionals who have chosen to attend training, take and pass an exam administered by the Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association. APs are qualified to design or install a landscape or irrigation system for a Florida Water StarSM project. Although not required, working with an AP can increase an applicant’s ability to achieve certification.
What is Florida Water StarSM?
The Florida Water StarSM program is a voluntary water conservation certification program for new residential and commercial construction and existing home renovation. The program encourages water efficiency in appliances, plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems and landscapes, as well as water quality benefits from best management practices in landscapes. The program was developed by the St. Johns River Water Management District in 2006 and became a statewide program in 2012. Learn more here
